Sewer blockages doesn’t happen quickly. It takes time for it to occur, and there are some warning signs you can watch out for.
Pay attention to any bad smells coming from the drain or water that has begun to pool from the drain as well. Also, keep an eye out for sinks and baths that aren’t draining as quickly as they should. You may also notice that your toilet or drain make gurgling sounds when water goes down them. Another sign is that the toilet bowl water level rises or the water level becomes far lower than it should. When you notice any of these signs, be sure to contact help immediately. You want to do what you can to prevent sewer blockages. Make sure you don’t flush anything that isn’t designed to be flushed, including wet wipes. Most sewer blockages happen because of these products.
You also want to avoid flushing sanitary products, cotton swabs and dead fish down the toilet. You can place strainers and guards on all of your drains to ensure that larger items are not allowed to block up your pipes and drains.
You may not be able to prevent every blockage, though. Sewer pipes can corrode and rust over time and the ground around the pipes can move and cause problems. Even tree growth can cause issues, as the roots intrude into the sewer and drains.
